How do I keep my accounts and cards secure while travelling?
Simple steps to bank safely overseas
Tell us you’re leaving
By letting us know when you’re going overseas, we can keep an eye out for suspicious activity on your account. Let us know in the Bankwest App from the ‘More’ screen and selecting ‘Going overseas’. If you use online banking, fill out an Overseas Travel Notification.
Check the banking access in the country you’re travelling to
Some countries are part of an international sanction, which means you’ll only have restricted banking access if you go there. Before you go, it’s a good idea to check if you’ll be affected – find out more.
Protect your details
Always keep your PIN and password a secret. Make sure they aren’t written anywhere someone else could find them. You can also set up PIN or Fingerprint Login in the Bankwest App.
What to do if you forget your Personal Access Number (PAN) or password
You can find your PAN or reset your password in the Bankwest App or online.
If you don’t have access to your mobile or the internet, call us and we can help – just be mindful of any international call rates that might apply.
Separate your cards
Keep your cards in different places so you’ll have a backup if one of your bags is lost or stolen. Read more about what to do if you lose a card.
Keep an eye out
Check ATMs and electronic facilities for suspicious devices. If your transaction is made over the counter, ask for a cancellation receipt if you’re told your transaction is unsuccessful. Also see how you can save on fees while you travel.
